A shapeshifting spirit of lower rank than angels. Jinn can appear in animal or human forms and are capable of invading and possessing the bodies of humans. Jinns were shape-shifting spirits which predated Islam, were accepted by the Quran as part of God’s creation and most jinn were neither good nor evil, but a few were shayatin which were dangerous ancient spirits (1).
