A doll constructed by a hoodoo rootworker in the image of an individual, dressed in items from him/her (e.g., hair, clothing swatches, etc.) or stuffed with personal items as well as magical items (e.g. herbs, spells, etc.) taken from him/her. A picture of the targeted person is often affixed to the doll. Poppets are cursed or enchanted by the hoodoo rootworker who acts out the intent of the spell using the figure (e.g. piercing certain body parts, binding it with a cord, burying the doll, submerging it in water, etc.).
