In ancient Rome, sorts was a method of divination which involved drawing lots (randomly selecting phrases or sentences from the Bible) which were then interpreted in order to answer a question or predict the future or casting lots (tossing objects such as bones, straws, pebbles, etc.) believed to land in patterns which revealed the will of a deity. Both methods were employed as a means of fortune telling to predict the future.
